Ex-Afghan female MP shot dead at home

Gunmen have shot dead a former Afghan female lawmaker and her bodyguard at her home in the Afghan capital, Kabul police said Sunday.

Mursal Nabizada was among the very few lawmakers who stayed in Kabul after the Taliban took over the city in August 2001.

They were both shot dead at around 3 a.m while asleep, Khalid Zadran the Taliban police spokesman said adding that her brother and a second guard were injured in the attack.

The police have launched an investigation, Zadran said.

Nabizada was elected to serve in the parliament in 2019 and stayed in the office until the republic government collapsed.

It is the first time a lawmaker from the previous government has been killed since the Taliban came to power.
